Today, I had the experience of watching some house flies attempt to escape a building by flying into a pane of glass. The bugs would aim at the outside world, charge full speed ahead, but only to get knocked back by the window that separated them from the outside world. Confused, the flies would crawlContinue reading “Blog: Houseflies and Windowpanes”

C.S. Lewis, Fairytales, and the Art of Storytelling
โOne day you will be old enough to start reading fairytales again.โโฃ -C.S. Lewis โฃPerhaps the most degrading intellectual shift that ever occured was the moment we traded our fiction for textbooks and the like.โฃโฃFor most of human history, we have traded knowledge in a very particular, story-driven way. Stories were understood – not onlyContinue reading “C.S. Lewis, Fairytales, and the Art of Storytelling”
Gospel Reflection 5/24/20
We must make disciples in the same manner Jesus did: by truly and deeply loving all those God has given to us.

โI Wish it Need not Happen in my Timeโ – A Reflection Inspired by Frodoโs Insecurity
I wish it need not have happened in my time,” said Frodo. “So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us. – JRR Tolkien, TheContinue reading “โI Wish it Need not Happen in my Timeโ – A Reflection Inspired by Frodoโs Insecurity”
Gospel Reflection 5/17
Jesus said to his disciples:โฃโIf you love me, you will keep my commandments.โฃAnd I will ask the Father,โฃand he will give you another Advocate to be with you always,โฃthe Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot accept,โฃbecause it neither sees nor knows him.โฃBut you know him, because he remains with you,โฃand will be in you.โฃIContinue reading “Gospel Reflection 5/17”
Liturgy of the Hours
Liturgy of the Hours, or the Divine Office, is the โdaily prayer of the Church marking the hours of each day and sanctifying the day with prayerโ (USCCB). The Hours are a contemplative dialogue on the โmystery of Christ, using scripture and prayerโ (USCCB). The two most important Hours are Morning and Evening Prayer because they include a Gospel canticle: Morning Prayer (Benedictus) and Evening Prayer (Magnificat).
First Things
First Things: Welcome to Catholicism Iโve always found it near impossible to commit to things. As I go about my daily life, I often identify habits, goals, or practices that I wish to integrate into my life, but after only a few days of this, I grow weary, decide the practice is too difficult, orContinue reading “First Things”
